When I’m ready to give up with doing my child’s hair and ready to hand over the task to someone else and am willing to pay for that even tho I kinda like challenging myself with different styles and can’t really afford to pay someone else, that’s when it’s time to look at solutions to the problem. (that was a long sentence huh? lol)
After talking with a friend who is Natural, I realized that Bri’s hair sucks up product, so it can never have enough moisture. When I’m looking for products for her hair I’m looking for items that help make her hair more managable, provide moisturization, hold her style and maintain her style.
I’ve been using these products for over a month now and want to give my thoughts.
African Royale Hot Six Oil: I use this for a few things, for when her hair is wet and I’m detangling and/or banding it; for when I’m braiding I will use on her scalp, and throughout the style from time to time to help keep her hair and scalp moisturized. I like that it’s not too heavy of an oil and doesn’t have a bad smell.
SoftsheenCarson Let’s Jam! Custard Flexible Hold Cream Gel: this is basically a creamy gel pudding that I end up using more on my hair than I do on hers. If I blowdry and flat iron her hair then this is good for holding her ponytail but not as great as actual gel for the holding aspect but looks better than gel if that makes sense. I like it on my hair and my hair is relaxed. I also like it if her hair is in ponytails and I will use it on the braided parts.
Murray’s Gel Loc-Lock: the package says it holds cornrows, braids, locs & twists tighter longer … for natural styles. And that it does. I really like this product! I use it as I braid and it makes the braid seem to look sleeker and hold longer.
Last, I was recommended to try a satin scarf which I’ve read before but just never tried on her hair because I’d never had much success with it in the past on myself. So I got this one for I think $2.97 and it does stay on better than a du-rag but unfortunately for my wild child, nothing stays on 100%. But when it does stay on consecutive nights in a row, I can tell the difference in the way her braids look. So that’s a good thing. I keep meaning to get one for myself, and I was just in Walmart smh.
All of these items I purchased at Walmart and each item was under $5. I can’t remember the price of the Custard and Loc-Lock but the oil was $3.97 or around there. I remember because it was almost $6 at Food Lion and I was like I will wait till I make my way to the dreaded Walmart because that’s just highway robbery.
