Looking for ways to upkeep your skincare routine at home? I’m sharing how I’m keeping up with my eyebrow waxing using an awesome tool for at home skincare.
Well it’s how many days and how many weeks of social distancing? I’ve honestly lost count. Although I know some states are starting to lift restrictions and allow some non-essential businesses to open…my state, at the time of writing this post, is not one of them. Even if it was, I wouldn’t be patroning anytime soon. I quickly realized that at home skincare was something I was in desparate need of.
I know we all have different things we need when it comes to keeping up our skincare and beauty routines at home. For me, it’s waxing. Eyebrow waxing to be specific.
A few weeks ago I was itching to get out of the house after working from home. After being tied to my laptop all week, I felt like Fred Flinstone when it was finally quitting time! I went for a much needed Target run to stretch my legs, get out of the house, and grab a few things we needed.

I picked up this Flamingo face wax kit to give it a try because my eyebrows were full blown catipillars at this point! I’ve tried waxing kits before over the years and frankly, didn’t care for them. I’d always much rather go to get them done.
Since moving to Raleigh it’s been hit or miss finding a place who does eyebrow waxing a) how I like it and b) at a price that I like. Many of the salons here do eyebrow threading. Which has always scared me. Ironically, I was going to get my brows threaded the weekend before everything closed down. I didn’t get a chance to, but I was fully prepared to swallow my fears and try it.
Fast forward to now. This past weekend, after having the Flamingo kit for a couple of weeks, I decided I couldn’t look at my face anymore!
One of the bloggers I follow, Kate at The Small Things Blog, had shared this same Flamingo wax kit on her Instagram stories (diy eyebrow wax) a few weeks ago. It wasn’t until I went back to see the stories on her highlights that I realized I got the same kit.
I watched her tutorial and decided to go for it. Today I’m sharing my tips after using this kit a few times and if you want to see a tutorial I’ll direct you to her because I was definitely not taking pictures or videos during the process!
TIPS FOR USING FLAMINGO FACE WAX KIT
For eyebrows, cut the wax strip in half. These are pretty big strips, way too big for your eyebrow. To maintain some control, cut the strip in half length-wise to start. I even cut them in half again to have small rectangles to work under my brow.
I don’t recommend working too much with the top of your eyebrows. Only use the wax to clean that area. You don’t want to interfere too much with the shape of your brow from the top.
Start conservatively. My original goal was to clean up my brows and I didn’t want to be Team Too Much and take off more than necessary.
The next day, with a little more confidence I decided I would go a little thinner. This time I didn’t cut the strips twice, just the original cut.
I was so enbolden with confidence I went to town with my side burns and my peach fuzz on my lips. Now I am a true convert!
I took these before and during pictures from screenshots of videos on SnapChat…
This was my before picture. Oof! Side note: I was talking about home decor so I was excited! 🙂
After my first waxing I took this video. My face is looking pretty greasy, from the oils in the post-wax cloth that comes in the kit. Not to mention that my eyelids can get a little oily on their own.
Voila! The after! I’m quite pleased with my results! I could start using an eyebrow pencil or powder to create a clean, crisp brow, but I could probably use some tips from a pro when we can get back to normal life.
MY REVIEW OF THE FLAMINGO FACE WAX KIT
This kit was $10 at Target and comes with 20 wax strips, 6 post-wax cloths and a calming serum. It honestly should cost more and I will be stocking up on this kit for even after quarantine life. I don’t see why I would need to get my eyebrows waxed again!
If you can’t find it in your local Target, (I just checked and all of the stores near me show sold out) you can also purchase directly from Flamingo and they have free shipping over $10 so it’s a win-win. (yes I just ordered two kits)
I was pleasantly surprised and impressed with how well these wax strips work! No hot wax, no goop, no mess, I mean how is this even possible!
On top of the wax strips themselves working so well, I really like the post-wax cloths. They remove any wax residue and they soothe and calm the skin. They feel very similar to what they use at the salon after my wax.
If you need more soothing, the calming serum is great for that. I used it for my upper lip because that’s always a tender area for me. I’ve been getting my eyebrows waxed since I was a teen so it’s not painful for me at all. But my lips I only get waxed every so often because it’s so painful. The calming serum helps to relieve the sting immediately.
I highly recommend you give the Flamingo Face Wax Kit a try. They also have a body wax kit. I don’t need that personally now, but maybe in the future.
This post was meant to talk about other ways to do at home skincare but I kinda went on a tangent…an ode to this Flamingo wax kit! Woops! What can I say? I freakin love it!
Have you tried it before? What other at home skincare things are you doing? Hair coloring? Hair cutting? Please no drastic cuts!! Let me know in the comments below!
